After nearly two decades together and nearly three months since Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman filed for divorce from country music star Keith Urban, the pair have officially finalized their split in documents filed January 6 in a Nashville court. Their marriage, which began in 2006 after they met at a G’Day USA gala, has come to a close in a settlement that reflects both their stature as global entertainment figures and their shared commitment to co-parenting their two daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 15.

The terms of the settlement disclosed in legal filings obtained by media outlets underscore how Kidman and Urban have chosen a relatively amicable path through what could have been an acrimonious process. Both parties agreed to waive all rights to child support, spousal support and alimony, a decision made possible because each earns a reported monthly income in excess of $100,000. They will also cover their own legal fees and expenses rather than share costs or seek reimbursement from one another.

Regarding their children, the settlement outlines a clear and structured parenting plan. Kidman, who has been focused on maintaining stability for the family since filing in September 2025, was granted primary custody with the daughters residing with her for 306 days of the year. Urban will have scheduled time with the girls for 59 days annually, framed as “every other weekend” plus additional designated periods. These arrangements reflect a balance between Kidman’s more stable home base and Urban’s often demanding touring schedule, according to reports.

Despite the waiver of financial support obligations, both parents remain actively involved in making joint parenting decisions and maintaining a cooperative approach as they transition into their new roles. A source close to the family noted that there is no animosity between the former couple, and both have prioritized their children’s emotional well-being during the process, something that Kidman highlighted in social posts around the holidays while celebrating with her daughters.

The settlement also addressed the division of assets. Rather than engaging in protracted negotiations or a court-ordered split, Kidman and Urban agreed that all personal property including investments, bank accounts, furniture, vehicles, appliances and other items will be divided by mutual agreement, with each person retaining what they already possess or come to terms on privately. This pragmatic approach reflects a desire to minimize conflict and preserve a sense of dignity and respect long associated with the couple’s public personas.

It remains unclear whether the former spouses had a prenuptial agreement, though no details about such a contract have been disclosed in the court filings. Their decision to forego child and spousal support rather than negotiate traditional financial terms suggests that both felt secure in their independent financial footing and more interested in wrapping up the legal aspects of the divorce without prolonged entanglement.

Kidman’s filing on September 30, 2025 cited “irreconcilable differences” as the basis for the split, ending what many saw as one of Hollywood’s most enduring marriages. The couple had reportedly been living apart since earlier in the summer as they struggled to coordinate their demanding careers alongside personal priorities, though friends and insiders noted that Kidman initially hoped to salvage the relationship.

Their daughters, now teenagers, have been a central consideration throughout the proceedings. Kidman’s primary custody arrangement was reportedly a point she felt strongly about, in part shaped by her own experience in her first marriage to Tom Cruise, where she has said she feared history repeating what she lived through as a young mother. The final agreement, giving Urban structured visitation but allowing Kidman to maintain a steady home environment for their children, stems from that perspective.

In addition to their Nashville residence, which figures prominently in the family’s life, the couple’s international property holdings including Australian homes and urban investments across markets will be divided according to private arrangements the two reach outside public scrutiny. Reports suggest their combined real-estate interests could be vast, with holdings in Sydney, Beverly Hills, Manhattan and rural estates in New South Wales representing a significant portion of their shared portfolio.

While the marriage has ended, both Kidman and Urban remain public figures with thriving careers. Kidman has been candid about her mindset heading into 2026, sharing messages about growth and positivity on social media, while Urban continues to tour and perform for fans around the world. Their ability to finalize their divorce relatively quickly and without a drawn-out court battle reflects not just their financial resources but a mutual desire to transition to the next phase of life with as much respect and cooperation as possible.

For a couple who met at a gala event in 2005 and married the following year, building a life together that included family, shared milestones and public celebrations, the end of their marriage is significant. Yet the settlement terms, rooted in pragmatism and priority for their children, signal a chapter that closes with a sense of mutual understanding and focus on what matters most to both Kidman and Urban as individuals and co-parents.
