The first big wave of this year’s awards buzz hit on December 8, 2025, the nominees for the 83rd annual Golden Globe Awards were announced, and the usual mix of surprises, snubs and early frontrunners is already fueling chatter across Hollywood and beyond.

Topping the list is “One Battle After Another,” which drew a remarkable nine nominations across film categories more than any other movie this year. It’s followed by Sentimental Value with eight nods and Sinners with seven, marking them as strong contenders for Golden Globe glory. On the small-screen side, the hit series The White Lotus leads the pack with six nominations, followed by Adolescence earning five.

The Globe telecast scheduled for January 11, 2026 will once again be hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser. This year’s awards also break new ground in format and scope: among the 28 categories is a first-ever nod for Best Podcast, reflecting how the entertainment landscape now spans beyond film and television.

As expected, some of this year’s most talked-about films including Wicked: For Good did not escape controversy. Though it earned acting nods for its leads, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, the film was notably left out of the Best Motion Picture (Musical/Comedy) nominations, a snub that surprised many industry watchers.

Other prominent recognitions go to established stars expanding their golden-era resumes. Long-time favorites are nominated alongside fresh faces and films challenging traditional cinematic boundaries. The nominations reflect a mix of prestige drama, genre fare, international cinema, animation, and even podcasts showing that the Globes are evolving with the times.

With this broad and eclectic spread of nominees, the upcoming awards night promises to be one of the most unpredictable in recent memory. Whether “One Battle After Another” converts nominations into wins or a dark horse upsets expectations, the Golden Globes 2026 have already captured the spotlight
