In a heartwarming and surprisingly low-key celebration, two of comedy’s most legendary families have officially become one. Eric Murphy, the eldest son of comedy icon Eddie Murphy, and Jasmin Lawrence, daughter of fellow comedic superstar Martin Lawrence, recently tied the knot cementing a real-life connection that fans have only joked about for years.

The couple, who had been engaged since November 2024, exchanged vows in a quiet and intimate church ceremony, choosing love and simplicity over the spectacle one might expect from such high-profile families. Only a preacher was present as they said “I do,” making the moment deeply personal and emotional.

Eddie Murphy announced the news during an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, where he couldn’t resist adding his classic humor to the occasion.

“We’re officially in-laws,” he said, laughing. “Martin was supposed to pay for a big wedding, but they got married in the church, so now he’s off the hook.”

The decision to skip the grand ceremony surprised some, especially since the original plan involved a more elaborate celebration with family and celebrity friends in attendance. However, the couple prioritized privacy and meaning, something they’ve valued since the beginning of their relationship.

Eric, 35, and Jasmin, 29, have been together since 2021. Though many fans assumed their romance began due to their fathers’ longtime friendship and collaborations in films like Boomerang and Life, the truth is more organic. The couple reportedly met through Jasmin’s uncle not through Hollywood connections and hit it off immediately.

In November 2024, Eric proposed to Jasmin in a beautifully decorated room filled with candles, roses, and heartfelt emotion. The photos, which Jasmin shared on social media, were met with an outpouring of love from fans and fellow celebrities alike.

“Forever sounds good to me,” Jasmin captioned her engagement announcement, calling Eric her best friend and soulmate.

Martin Lawrence also addressed the engagement during his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! at the time, joking about who would foot the bill for the wedding and giving Eric his full support.

“Eric’s a good man,” Lawrence said. “They make a great couple, and I’m happy for them.”

While the wedding ceremony was small, both families have hinted at a larger celebration in the future, possibly a star-studded party to bring everyone together. Eddie teased that the “real party” might come later, saying, “Let’s just say, this ain’t over yet.”

Fans online are already calling this union the “royal wedding of comedy.” Between Eddie Murphy’s multi-decade legacy in stand-up, film, and TV and Martin Lawrence’s contributions to comedy and pop culture, this next generation seems set for greatness or at least a household full of humor.

This marriage represents more than just a romantic milestone; it's a symbol of unity, legacy, and a continued celebration of Black excellence in entertainment. With both families supporting the couple and joking about future grandchildren, one can only imagine the comedic potential of the next generation.

Congratulations to Eric and Jasmin Murphy-Lawrence, who’ve turned a legendary friendship between two fathers into a lasting family legacy.
